What is promised in a Baptism?
All those being baptised make three promises. In the case of an infant baptism, parents and Godparents make these promises on behalf of the child.
1) An opposition to the world, the flesh, and the devil, which mean a rejection of all that is opposed to the will of God.
2) A belief in God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, which means trust in God as the one who made us, in Jesus as the one who saves us, and in the Holy Spirit who makes us like Jesus.
3) A firm intention to obey God and follow His leading in our lives.
Godparents
When young children are baptised, Godparents can be invited to witness the parents act of faith in bringing the child to God.
They themselves should also be firm believers in Jesus Christ. They should be willing to assist the parents in raising the child to know Gods ways and be faithful members of Gods church.
When should Baptism take place?
Baptism should, whenever possible, be in a public service on Sundays. This enables the church to be present to welcome the new member and be reminded of both Gods goodness to them and their response of faith and love to God. Most importantly, this forms a firm link with the church in which the child is most likely to be brought up in.
Is there a Fee?
No. However, if you wish to make a donation of thanks (either through the normal offertory or directly into the church's safe deposit box), you are free to do so.
